BIS Certificate
According to the Indian Department of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) (erstwhile DeitY), under the Compulsory Registration Scheme Order (CRS), Certain products are required to comply with Indian safety standards and obtain BIS Registration for IT & Electronic products before import, distribution and selling in India.
BIS Registration is essential for all the electronic products which are listed in Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) and get to be sold in India. All foreign and Indian manufacturers need to apply for this registration to ensure flawless export and selling of the product into Indian market.
Bureau of Indian Standards grants licence to the manufacturers to use or apply Standard Mark with unique R-number, through registration based on self-declaration of conformity for goods and articles as per Indian Standards. The BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard), Delhi Office undertakes a thorough analysis of the product quality and functioning and thereafter issue the BIS Registration certificate.
Process structure of BIS Registration
Manufacturer- License shall be provided to/on the name of the Manufacturing unit / Factory only, not to Importer/dealer/Brand company. however, the cert can be used by importer/ Brand company for import /selling of the product.
Product- Each product needs separate BIS license, identical models can be covered as family in one cert as per BIS guidelines.
Brand/Trademark- For Different brands/TM, separate certs are required respectively, under same manufacturer/product.
Manufacturing address- If one manufacturing unit/factory is located at two different locations, separate certs will be required for different locations in such case.
IR Company- For all Foreign Manufacturers/applicants, an Indian Representative company (IR) is required, it should be a registered company is India.
(Whether Manufacturer's liaison office / subsidiary firm/ branch office or Brand's liaison/subsidiary/Branch, if both not available,
a major importer/distributor/ or an entity having marketing tie-up with the brand owner and /or the manufacturer,
can be appointed as the authorized Indian representative).
Steps for registration:
1st- The sample of product has to be provided to “BIS Accredited Indian Laboratory” for testing under defined IS Standard.
2nd- After completing testing, when the Test Report is ready, we apply on BIS registration portal with prescribed filled-up Form VI,
along with test report, factory documents & Indian Representative Company Documents with proper information & details.
3rd- After scrutiny of all submitted documents & information, BIS Registration Certificate will be issued
